From the Director

I want to take a moment to shine a light on the true foundation of every nonprofit, organization, and even business—the hands of a volunteer and hearts of donors.

Hands that give without expecting, work tirelessly without reward, and carry burdens that often go unseen. Volunteers are the quiet force behind the festivals we celebrate, the events that bring us together, and the charities that change lives.
Think about the heart it takes to give time, energy, and resources in a world where everyone is stretched thin. That is the heart of a volunteer—selfless, unwavering, and full of purpose. They show up despite their own challenges. They turn obstacles into opportunities. They make the impossible, possible.
As the Executive Director of the Freedman Arts District, I see this daily. Our upcoming Chalk it Up, Beaufort wouldn't be possible without the hands and hearts of the volunteers, donors and acts of kindness that often never see the light of day. I witness their passion, their sacrifice, and their deep commitment to their communities. Beaufort, SC, is a place of generosity and kindness because of those who work behind the scenes, never seeking the spotlight but deserving of it nonetheless.
Take a moment to thank a volunteer today. Let them know their efforts matter—because without them, so much of what we cherish simply wouldn’t exist.
They are the true leaders.
Thank you Chalk it Up volunteers, donors, sponsors and supporters; you make the world a better place.
Cherimie
