Freedman Arts District

Artists Sunday

November 26 | 11am-4pm | Throughout Freedman Arts District

On Sunday November 26 – the Sunday after Thanksgiving – The Freedman Arts District is engaging Beaufort’s artists, art galleries, and holiday shoppers to participate in Artist Sunday.

Sandwiched between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Artist Sunday is a nationwide art-shopping event taking place with professional artists, non-profit art organizations and municipalities across the country.  Begun in 2020, participants include hundreds of local communities, and thousands of individual artists.

2023 is the first year Beaufort artists will participate, and spearheaded by the non-profit organization Freedman Arts District along with partners Beaufort Area Hospitality Association, and the Beaufort Cultural District. This project is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. This project is also funded in part by a generous award from the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of The Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina.  Plans include most of the art galleries downtown being open for business 11-4; Open House from 12-4 at private art studios on residential streets; street musicians on Bay Street from 12-4; photo-op boards where people can take photos of themselves in a famous painting will dot Bay St, and Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance!  At 2 pm the winner of the Bike Rack Design Competition will be announced at USCB’s Visual Art & Design building.
